sweet story of raising puppy October 30, 2009 Shannon Duggan (Santa Rosa, CA) This is a very heart-warming kind book on how to raise a puppy the way a dog mother would do it. The problem is if you don't have a lot of time to read a full text book, then your puppy will start mis-behaving and teaching them wrong things before you've reached the particular chapters. I would advise to buy this book and read it cover to cover before you find your new puppy so you are fully equpped!
You and your new dog September 25, 2009 Aaron P. Graff If you are new to dogs or pets in general, this book really helps you get off to a good start. It helps you understand your dog in his world and teaches you how to communicate with him/her. We have had dogs before and did well but would have done much better if we had read ths book first.

If You Get Just One Dog Book - Make It Mother Knows Best June 29, 2009 Dawn A. Marcus, MD (Pittsburgh, PA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This book is my absolute favorite dog training book, with practical, easy-to-implement instructions that achieve the desired result of a well-trained dog. Carol's approach is spot-on and well tested. I have a dog-earred and heavily highlighted copy on my shelf that's overflowing with post-its marking "important pages." (I suspect there may be fewer unmarked than marked pages!)Whenever a new dog is coming to the house, I pull Mother Knows Best off the shelf for a cover-to-cover read and refresher. I often find tidbits I'd forgotten that I need to re-implement with the older dogs! Wonderful resource for the novice or experienced dog owner! Dawn A. Marcus, MD [...]
Mother really knows best June 27, 2009 T. Markle We had gotten an 8 month old beagle puppy from a bad home. I was having a difficult time disciplining and teaching her because of her past. After reading this book and only 1 month later, she has showed real improvement and is becoming a well mannered member of our family.
Mother really does know best and I think this book is essential to any person or family getting a new puppy or adopting an old friend. It is possible to teach old dogs new tricks, you just have to be patient. This book helped me and my beagle to be the best of friends, set boundaries, and still be happy.
