Product Description Diseases of the Goat has become well established as a truly invaluable tool for veterinarians. It is a highly practical, concise handbook for frequent reference. The book covers all aspects of goat medicine, from assessment and examination, to diagnosis, treatment and control of conditions. This new edition has been updated and extended, in particular to incorporate the impact of recent developments, such as the geographical spread of diseases into new regions. There are new chapters on the Geriatric Goat; Inadequate Growth Rate; Biosecurity and Herd Health in order to reflect changes in current concerns and practice and there is also extended and updated material included on surgical techniques and anaesthesia. This edition now includes a section with colour photographs in order to assist diagnosis.

A Must Have Book If You are Raising Goats August 27, 2009 R. Yeakley (Oklahoma) Diseases of the Goat is a very helpful book and loaded with useful information. I recommend it for anyone who is raising goats,or just getting started. Very Good Book!!
diseases of the goat February 9, 2009 Toni Wescott (kansa) this was a gift for my vet.he told me it had some very well written and helpful information in it.
The Best Book on Troubleshooting Goat Illness May 27, 2008 Anna P. This is one of the best books out there for anyone that has even ONE goat. Many times, when symptoms arise - there isn't much time available to figure out what's going on. This will help goat owners both prevent and treat (with the help of their vets for the medication end) problems.

I only recommend this for all goat owners.
A must for for goat vet March 6, 2003 C. Adams (Visalia, CA USA) 13 out of 13 found this review helpful
I have just about every goat medicine and management book available and this is by far the best. Smith and Pugh are decent books, but when you need a quick answer Matthews is the best. This book is inexpensive, portable, and gives treatment options not found in the other texts. I am a veterinarian and see on an average of 10-15 small ruminants per week and this book is used constantly. I found the anaesthetic protocols particularly useful as I am not fond of using Xylazine in goats. There are few pictures, but the information is easily located and you don't have to wade through alot of useless albiet interesting informatin. This book may not be as useful to goat owners as for veterinarians, because it does assume a basic veterinary education. Any vet that works on small ruminants should have a copy of this book, and if you are a goat owner you may want to consider purchasing this as a gift for your veterinarian or at least showing them this review and encouraging them to buy a copy. I cannot reccommend this book highly enough for the small ruminant practitioner.
