5 out of 5 stars great over all book on natural health   October 21, 2009
Masters (jacksonville, nc)
This book was everything I was looking for when it comes to overall natural health for my dog. I have been having issues with my toy poodle not eating. I had to start making him homemade food, (still keeping it raw) but didn't know what nutrients were important to include in his food to keep him healthy. This book helped explain what he needs and why ( in the process of seeing if my dog will eat recommended recipes).

Also since the author is a Dr in the field I trust the information much more than jut any other dog information book from an ordinary author/ dog enthusiast. The local holistic dr here in the area is too far and cost $140 an hour. This is a good alternative book if your animal doesn't have anything too serious, but need to find a natural way to help before symptoms get worse. So, far everything I have read has been helpful and the cost of the book is dirt cheap compared to the valuable wealth of information inside. Get it!

This is a very comprehensive and informative book that perfectly compliments the idea of holistic pet care, and also holistic and encompassing pet grooming. Lots of natural methods and remedies!!

5 out of 5 stars 5 out of 5 purrs!   September 27, 2009
Janet Roper (Minneapolis, USA)
Got pets? Cats and dogs? Then you'll find Dr. Pitcairn's New Complete Guide to Natural Health for Dogs and Cats a must for your library. It's quite a big book, a paperback with 464 pages. Originally published 20 years ago, it has sold over 400,000 copies. What does that tell you? That people love it and it actually works for your pets!

Prevention is the key to having a happy and healthy pet. Dr. Pitcairn's book provides succinct, easy to follow, and easy to understand information about natural care for dogs and cats.

The book is divided into two parts, with the first part covering natural health for pets. In this section, you will find information on exercise, diet, home-made recipes, how to care for a sick animal, choosing a healthy animal, creating a healthy environment for your pet, coping with the death of a pet, and alternative and holistic modalities for pets.

The second section of the book is a quick reference section for diseases, and even has a section for handling emergencies and giving first aid. This is great for those moments when you don't have time to spend time paging through books--when you need information immediately.

As a person who owns several cats and dogs, this is an invaluable reference to have on hand, and I highly recommend it. As far as the home-made pet food cat recipes, my 17 year old cat Mitzie gives them 5 out of 5 purrs!

Harmony,
Janet Roper

3 out of 5 stars Too many recipes and no "quick fixes"   September 25, 2009

I was disappointed the book offered recipes for me to cook for my pet. I was wanting a home remedy type answer. Not sure if any book offers that.
